Why do I get a "GTA IV FATAL ERROR: TEXP70 - GTA IV FATAL ERROR: Unable to create depth render target - Please re-install DirectX and/or install the latest video card driver." Error?
I installed GTA IV on my laptop which used to have Windows Vista Home Basic, and now has Windows 7 Ultimate. I got the error on both OS's, so this is not a Windows 7 issue.I went in to it all fine and everything, went in and out and in and out multiple times, then finally I decided to log in to Windows Live. It told me there was an update for Windows Live and I must install it to stay signed in to Live. I do this and this is where the problem starts. I put the disc in and attempt to start the game, instead of the game startingI get this error:GTA IV FATAL ERROR: TEXP70 - GTA IV FATAL ERROR: Unable to create depth render target - Please re-install DirectX and/or install the latest video card driver.I have no clue what causes this but I have the latest video card drivers and I have tried to re-install DirectX.If I uninstall the game and then re-install it, still no luck. I must first delete the Registry entries for Rockstar Games products. What is causing this and how do i fix it?I am getting a graphics upgrade at Christmas and I want this game to work so I can "break in" my new card. How do I fix this?I have an Intel X3100 (I know, cant even almost nearly play it, but I wanted to see...and then I ran into this and I am concerned)Thank you very much!

An Intel card usually means onboard graphics, and onboard graphics usually can't play these games that require a lot of graphics... That error probably means that your current card can't start the game since it doesn't meet the game requirements and can't "create depth render target" (not surprising for onboard graphics). You'll have to wait until your graphics card upgrade. JoelbX's favorite threads | Space | ----- | Contact me | 'Gadget' programs

I understand that the Intel Graphics (which yes, all Intel graphics are on the motherboard) will not be able to run the game, but...Why does it wait until I do the update for LIVE to give me that message? I was able to get into the game and see a slideshow of gameplay (5 FPS MAX LOL) but after the update it wont even load the menu for the game, nevermind the game itself. I just cant understand this. Is there something in that LIVE update that allows the game to check your hardware?

Hi,This should not be caused by DirectX unless it is removed manually. Thus you can try to upgrade or reinstall your display card driver to test on the issue. Meanwhile as display card will be replaced at Christmas, the issue should be fixed when using the new card with a new driver.I searched and found this page. Some people encounter the same issue as yours. A tool named "rivatuner"helps on the issue. You can have a test.As currently it is mostly like a slideshow, I recommend waiting for the new display card as itshould help fix the issue.

Might be a software conflict with the game and a Live app, I would uninstall all unneeded live apps and try the game again. (Or just wait for your graphics card upgrade to play the game....) JoelbX's favorite threads | Space | ----- | Contact me | 'Gadget' programs

I was reading the page that Shaon Shan had posted and realized that it was the GTA patch and not the LIVE update.I beleive that the LIVE update happens and then the GTA IV patch thing pops up, if im not mistaken, you can click cancel on the patch. I will refer to this later and I will do this if i still have the darn error after I get my ViDock 2 with ATI 4670 for this Laptop! :D (Yes you can put desktop cards in boxes and hook them up to your express card slot on your laptop...yes you can...Village Tronic is my hero company.)So im gonna get that baby for about 310 bucks which isnt bad cuz i was gonna get an Xbox 360, but then i would have to get the wireless adapter and buy games again, and im lika awww whatver. So then i thought well what if I really can change this! so i found that thing, hope they send it to me when I buy it and I hope it works! haha. :DI will try the "Cancel" button on the patch installation if the graphics card doesnt help the error, unless of coarse someone else here has a suggestion to my problem.Thank you.

The issue is resolved. Game plays better than expected. The issue was solved by the Graphics upgrade. Kids, dont try to play GTA IV on a cheap Integrated graphics card...Thank you.

I love this thing! If you have a laptop with cheap graphics, and are between getting an Xbox 360 or a computer upgrade to get gaming, I recommend the purchase of a ViDock 2.Thank you.

why would you spend that much money on the ViDock 2 when you could just buy a new xbox360 or ps3 for the same price?
